Does your vision seem a little blurrier these days? Is it harder to see clearly when using your cellphone or putting on make-up? Well, like other changes that come with age, you might notice your eyesight isn’t quite the same as when you were younger, especially when you’re reading.

Your eye doctor may have decided that reading glasses are the way to go for you. This is normal for many folks over 40. You see, as we get older our eyes lose the ability to focus on close objects.

But, if you’re anything like us, you want to read in style. This means finding glasses that accentuate and enhance your natural beauty while also giving you an easy, squint-free reading experience.

When shopping for high-fashion reading glasses, there are a few things to keep in mind. Before you treat yourself to a designer pair, make sure you know which lens power is right for you. Using a higher lens strength when you don’t need it can lead to headaches and eye strain.

So, how do you determine what high-fashion readers look best on you? Choose frames based on your face shape:

Heart-Shaped Face: Go for Wide-Bottomed Frames

Heart-shaped faces are narrower at the bottom, toward your chin and wider at the top, toward your forehead, so investing in a high-quality pair of reading glasses with wide-bottomed frames can help create more symmetry.

Oval-Shaped Face: Go for Wider, Square-Shaped Frames

While oval faces tend to be balanced proportion-wise, glasses can help add dimension. If you have an oval face, square-shaped frames that are as wide as the widest part of your face (or even wider) can amp up your style factor.

Square-Shaped Face: Go for Narrower, Oval Frames

Square faces have sharp angles, so narrow frames with oval lenses can help soften the strong angles and appearance of a square-shaped face.

Diamond-Shaped Face: Go for Cat-Eye or Oval Frames

You might be surprised to hear about a diamond-shaped face. It just means your jawline and forehead are narrower while your cheekbones are higher and wider. Cat-eye and rimless oval frames work best with this facial structure.

Colorful Frame Choices

Don’t forget when choosing your high-fashion frames (think Gucci, Chanel, Dior, Kate Spade, Saint Laurent, etc.) to keep color in mind. The brand doesn’t matter as long as the color meshes with your facial undertones and the frames and lens shape accentuate your features.

No matter what, know this … you can be just as fabulous and fashionable with reading glasses as your sunglasses. Do your research and take your time. And don’t go cheap – the better quality the glasses, the better your reading experience.
