Plump, dewy, gorgeous skin is 100% possible in your 40s and beyond. Like most things, all it requires is a bit of care, a consistent routine and sunscreen!
Before we share our tips for glowing skin, please remember this: aging is a beautiful thing. While you might view fine lines, wrinkles and smile lines as imperfections, to us they’re signs of your beauty and just how much you’ve conquered in life so far. Embrace them!
That said, here are some of our favorite tips to put your best face forward after 40:
Tip #1: Wear sunscreen religiously
The sun’s great for your mood, but your skin? Not so much. Whether you’re in the house all day or out on the beach, please make applying sunscreen a non-negotiable part of your daily routine.
Tip #2: Exfoliate Several Times a Week
Dull skin can be caused by a few factors, but one of the biggest culprits is dead skin buildup. To reveal dewy skin, exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week. You can use chemical exfoliators (do your research first) or physical ones. Be gentle and monitor dryness or redness afterward and adjust accordingly.
Tip #3: Invest in high-quality moisturizers
Hyaluronic acid plus a high-quality moisturizer are the keys to keeping your skin plump and hydrated. Just be sure to apply products containing hyaluronic acid to damp skin so this ingredient can work its magic without making your skin dry.
Tip #4: Extend your skincare beyond your face
The neck and chest areas have thinner skin than your face and show signs of aging earlier. When going through your skincare routine, don’t forget to apply your masks, moisturizers and oils to these areas, too. Invest in thicker creams for these areas to provide extra moisture.
Tip #5: Look for peptides and AHAs
Strengthen your skin against environmental factors like smoke or pollution with peptides and gentle chemical exfoliants like lactic or glycolic acid in your serums.
Most importantly, be consistent. Products don’t work unless you do – so show your skin some TLC and watch your face glow.
