If you know what you know today, what will you say to your younger self?

We’ve talked about all the skincare products and skincare regimens we can use and do in our 40s, but if you will have the chance to go back in time, what would you tell your 10, 20-year-old self about skincare and aging itself?

Well, we’ve rounded up things we didn’t put much attention to in the past and tips to say to the younger generation.

ENJOY THE AGE

It’s funny how we tried so hard to mature fast when we were younger. Putting on makeup, wearing off shoulders, and the like. But the thing is, you will get there, whatever happens, so do not rush! Just enjoy the age where you’re at and don’t try so hard to grow up before your time.

BE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR SKIN

Don’t try to fit into everybody else’s mold and embrace your color, skin type, and body type because there is no one like you! And do what makes you feel the best, the sexiest. Yes, you may try the latest trend, but only if you feel good about it, not because society pressured you in doing so. Or you can go against it.

Go natural, go gray, color your hair red, pluck your eyebrows, do whatever will make you feel fabulous.

BE ADVENTUROUS

Be more carefree to try new looks and see the different sides of you come out. Give yourself permission to play and have fun with your hair and wardrobe or try the newest trend. Don’t be frozen in a single style, and you might also be surprised that by doing these things, you’ll meet that one version of yourself that will love the most.

GO TO A DERMATOLOGIST AND INVEST IN SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Stop holding onto your memories of your mothers using certain products and brands. Your skin is different from your mother, is different from the woman in the commercial, and is different from the model in the magazine. What works for them may not be as effective to you. That is why it is essential to visit a dermatologist or licensed esthetician and get a professional assessment for your skin as early as you can.

There are also a lot of readily available skincare products in the market that are actually bad for you, so be more mindful looking into the ingredients and understand them. After all, your skin absorbs whatever you put on it.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY

Not just your face. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and it needs proper pampering the same way you take care of your face. Make sure that you have the good and right stuff for your elbows, knees, hands, and whatnot. Exfoliate and moisturize – give some love.

And aside from your physical body, your inner body also needs nourishment. Rest, drink lots of water, eat healthy food. Feed your mind, body, and spirit with positive things.

EMBRACE GETTING OLDER

In the same way, as we want you to enjoy your age, we want you to embrace getting older. Be glad and proud of your fine lines, your stretch marks, and your scars. These are all reminders of how good your life is, mementos of the hardship you’ve won, and proof that you birthed another life. And the fact that you reach this age is already a reason to celebrate.

TALK TO YOUR DAUGHTERS

These are the things we would’ve wanted to tell our younger self, what we wished someone had told us. Let’s break that cycle and talk to our daughters about skincare and aging itself so that when it’s their turn, they will be more than comfortable doing the same.
